Match Report | Telford & Wrekin Ladies 1s welcomed Burton Ladies 1s on a cold frosty morning to our St. Georges home. From the first whistle both teams failed to keep possession of the ball in a scrappy affair. As both teams exchanged half chances it was the visitors who took the lead mid-way through the half. Telford finished the half well & won three penalty corners but failed to capitalise on any of them, with the half finishing 0-1 to Burton. A stern half-time rant from the coach saw a different Telford side come out second half, with the girls dominating ball retention & territorial possession in the second half. Ten minutes into the 2nd half saw Saffy Pemberton-Jandu score Telford’s first goal, when her powerful shot ricochet off the opposing goalkeeper off a defender & into the net to level the scores 1-1. As the Telford team continued their surge forward & a circle penetrating run saw Meg Pennnell, win a penalty corner which was accurately dispatched into the corner by Lorna Burns & give Telford a deserved 2-1 lead. As the second half progressed Telford created chance after chance, until eventually Lorna Burns grabbed her second goal after some good build up play to give a welcome 3-1 cushion with ten minutes left on the clock. Game management saw the Telford girls maintain ball possession for the final minutes of the game & take home another three points. |
