Match Report | Telford & Wrekin Woman’s 1s hosted Edgbaston W1s in the final Midlands Division 1 league game before the Christmas break. Telford dominated from the first whistle setting a high tempo & a quick counter attack saw Lorna Burns open the scoring after two minutes. Telford continued to play possession hockey & had just reward after twenty minutes when an attacking run into the circle by Saffy Pemberton-Jandu was clinically finished with a cross drilled to the back post for Lorna to slot home to get her & Telford’s second goal. Telford nearly extended their lead as Jodie Lane shot was saved by the Edgbaston goalkeeper. Half time saw Telford in a comfortable position with a 2-0 lead. Telford continued to play possession hockey in the second half but as the tempo dropped it allowed Edgbaston to have a glimmer of hope as they took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity & half Telford lead. Late exchanges saw both teams have chances but game management in the latter stages denied Edgbaston any chance of snatching a draw which would of been unjust on the Telford girls. A third win & a draw in their last five games see Telford sitting mid-table at the mid-season break |
