Match Report

Telford & Wrekin Woman’s 1s travelled to Solihull Blossomfield looking to back-up last weeks victory.

Telford started on the back-foot as the home side exerted early pressure forcing a penalty corner after two minutes. However, the hard struck corner was well saved by Charlotte Eyre & the defence cleared away any further danger.

Solihull continued to dominate the game but the Telford defence dealt with everything thrown at them.

After twenty minutes Telford girls started to get a foot hold in the game as a change in the playing system allowed more possession & forced Solihull back.

Just before half time Telford won a penalty corner which whistled just wide from a Kathryn Sinclair strike.

Goalless at half time & all to play for.

Both sides exchanged possession in the early stages of the second half in what was becoming a tight encounter waiting for the first team to crack.

As the clock ticked away Telford started to take control of the game & young legs started to wear down the experiences Solihull back line.

With ten minutes to Laura Hughes broke through into the circle one-on-one with the Solihull keeper but a loss of footing saw her shot slide wide.

This was quickly followed by some excellent skill from Saffy Pemberton-Jandu to open up a shooting opportunity that was deflected over the goalkeeper only to hit the cross bar & bounce away to safety.

With the momentum in Telford favour but only four minutes left in the clock the next attack saw the girls win a penalty corner. A training ground move saw Chez Lane force the ball over the line & for Telford to take the lead.

Straight from the restart Telford regained possession & a through ball found Lorna Burns one-on-one with the Solihull keeper & there was never any doubt as she burred the ball in the far corner to see Telford go ahead 2-0 with the game going into the final minutes.

With time ended there was celebrations from the girls as they saw themselves pick up the three pints for the second week running & move up the table into the top half.

Overall it was a determined performance for the whole squad & a demonstration of good teamwork.
