Match Report

After winning their first point of the season away from home last week, the team were looking to build on that at home against Leicester 2s.

Telford were on the front foot from the start of the game, and a number of opportunities were created by Meg Pennell using her pace down the left hand side of the pitch to press forward and get the ball in to the D.

The Telford side had four PCs in the first half of the game - the first two were closed down by the Leicester runners preventing a shot on goal. The third saw a drag from Saffy Pemberton-Jandu saved by the keeper whilst Lorna Burns also saw her strike saved, giving Chez Lane a chance to shoot from the rebound - this was also saved by the Leicester keeper.

Telford took the lead after 12 minutes when a ball into the D was flicked on by Meg Pennell for Lorna Burns to slot past the Leicester goalkeeper.

The first half continued with Telford creating chances to score - Chez Lane fired a reverse over the bar, and Lorna Burns saw her shot saved by the keeper.

Telford were patient when transferring the ball around the back, only occasionally trying to force the ball through into midfield, resulting in turnovers.

Half time score 1-0

Telford started the second half strongly, attacking the Leicester D, but ominously  Leicester were starting to build their way into the game and finding their way in behind the Telford defence on a number of occasions.

Leicester had started to increase their circle entries and managed to win a short corner which then was turned into a flick with an apparent foot on the line from Kathryn Sinclair despite telford defence being sure it was all stick lecister then scored the flick to bring the score to 2-1.

Telford then had to work hard to equalise with some hussle on the edge of the D by Jodie Lane and Meg Lancaster and finally Megan Lancaster crossed the ball across the goal line with a reverse sweep where Hebe Dixon and Meg Pennell were running in and we’re going to make sure it was going in the goal!  Meg Pennell with the final touch secured it.

5 minutes left of the game and Telford had to work hard Telford we’re putting Leicester under pressure right up to the final whistle. The final whistle then went just as Meg Pennell was putting the burners on and breaking ahead for a 1 v 1!

The game ended 2-2 a good point to Telford!
