Match Report

Both teams got off to a strong start but Towcester had the first chance to score, on the break, but this was thwarted by an excellent clearance from Telford GK Charlotte Eyre. Telford were the first to score when Meg Pennell intercepted a pass across the back between the Towcester defenders. Meg was then 1v1 with the keeper and came out on top, giving Telford the lead.
Telford continued to press forward and a great ball into the D from Laura Hughes was unlucky not to get a touch from a Telford player.
A period of dominance by Towcester saw them draw level when a straight strike from a PC found the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.
Telford edged ahead again when a ball from Laura Hughes was picked up by Lorna Burns in the D who outwitted her defender and fired the ball into the goal. Undeterred, Towcester struck back shortly afterwards when a free hit from midfield found its way through to the Telford D and the shot was deflected past Charlotte Eyre in goal.
The half time score was 2-2.
Throughout the second half chances were created by Telford with cleanly struck balls into the D from Laura Hughes, Jess Maddocks and Meg Lancaster all failing to get a touch from a Telford player.
An excellent save from Charlotte Eyre from a Towcester PC kept the teams level with the match finishing 2-2.
The Telford side dug deep, played some great hockey at times and scrambled the defence when necessary to earn their first point of the season. The team will look to take the positive from the game through to their game next week.
